Session Description:

Join Maura Martina, founder of @salaweyengagements for an enriching corporate wellness session designed to enhance both personal and professional development. Tailored for the NSCDA, this workshop blends physical movement with education to explore conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, and the cultivation of strong, professional relationships. Through thoughtful facilitation, Maura will guide participants to foster deeper communication, self-awareness, and connection, creating a space for holistic growth and lasting empowerment in the workplace. Open to all, this session promises a harmonious blend of learning and movement to support wellness in all areas of life.

Session Description:

Maura Martina (she/her/elle), the founder of Salawey Engagements and Project management, is an Afro- Mi’kmaw woman originally from Stephenville, Newfoundland. Maura is a retired elite level athlete from the sport of wrestling, where she competed for 13 years at a national level. She holds a bachelor’s degree majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in conflict resolution which she received from the University of Winnipeg where she wrestled varsity level. During her time living and studying in Treaty one territory, she began her career in facilitation with the Indigenous sport body of Manitoba and worked with Indigenous youth province-wide. Through her work experience, she created and programmed the annual race and running program ‘Run for Indigenous Women and Girls’ which is onto its 4th annual race this year. She is still heavily involved in the sport world, she works closely with Canadian women and sport to make meaningful changes through inclusion, diversity, and equity across the country. Due to her relocation back to her homeland. Maura has plans to expand this programming to the Atlantic coast of the country, where she is currently living in Kjipuktuk Mi’kmawki (also known as, Halifax Nova Scotia). In addition, Maura is an advocate of supporting people on their healing journey as well as advocating for individuals’ right to Justice. Full time, Maura is a project manager and facilitator with a private consulting firm based out of Ottawa, with 7 years’ experience in facilitation she works on consistently growing her business. She serves as a board member with the Community Justice Society in Kjipuktuk as she is passionate about changing the criminal justice system for the better of her communities.
