Description

This three-course module introduces Bridges Transition Model and focuses on practical strategies to support clients through the job loss cycle and career transitions. Participants will learn how to assist clients through the model’s three stages and the job loss cycle, help them to reframe perspectives, and adapt job search methods accordingly. Additionally, the module examines the ethical decision-making model.

By the end of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. Understand the complexity of career transitions and the impacts of job loss. 
  2. Identify the 5Rs of Culture Change and describe how they are applied to the concept of transition stress. 
  3. Recognize the stages of Bridges Transition Model. 
  4. Identify the Five Stages of Grief and describe how they relate to job loss. 
  5. Identify variables that can impact how clients respond to job loss and career transition and factors which can impact diverse groups who face their own unique challenges. 
  6. Identify strategies to support clients through the three stages of Bridges Transition Model. 
  7. Recognize indicators that a client may be ‘stuck’ in the Job-Loss Cycle. 
  8. Use reframing techniques to help shift clients' perspectives. 
  9. Prepare clients for interviews and answering questions related to their job loss. 
  10. Understand the impact of prolonged job loss and the additional stages of stagnation, frustration and apathy. 
  11. Appreciate the necessity to maintain professional boundaries and make referrals when clients’ needs are outside your scope of practice. 
  12. Define ethics and understand the guidelines in the Code of Ethics for Career Development Professionals. 
  13. Resolve an ethical dilemma using the Ethical Decision-Making Model. 
  14. Define compassion fatigue and be aware of self-care strategies.
