Description

This three-course series examines the complexities of military-to-civilian employment transitions. Participants will learn about military culture and services, recognize biases that affect client services and employment, and use tools to identify clients’ values and transferable skills. Participants will gain skills in translating military terminology into civilian language, understanding military documents, and using career planning tools like MySet, My Skills, and MNET. The course includes a list of veteran-friendly employers and resources, outlines an eight-step job search process tailored for veterans, and provides strategies for supporting clients as they navigate job loss grief, and military-to-civilian career transitions.

  6. Recognize the five aspects of the Social Determinants of Health in relation to military transition to civilian life. 
  7. Identify the three conditions of release from the CAF. 
  8. Recognize important issues facing the Canadian Military Family and the impact on a CAF member’s career. 
  9. Understand the impact of grief on military transition clients. 
  10. List internal military resources available to transitioning members. 
  11. Understand how Redirection, an extension of Super’s Career Theory, relates to military transition experiences. 
  12. Understand the Career Decision-Making model. 
  13. Use tools and strategies to support clients as they identify their values and transferable skills. 
  14. Describe an eight-step job search process for veterans in career transition.
