The ARC of Empathy

Course Description

The ARC of Empathy is an eight-module program that explores empathy as a dynamic, multi-layered process essential to effective communication and connection. Through reflection, neuroscience insights, and practical tools, learners build awareness of their empathic responses and learn how to adjust them in real time. This training is ideal for professionals who want to strengthen client relationships, improve listening, and lead with greater emotional intelligence.

  • Demonstrate an integrated understanding of empathy as a multidimensional construct, including its emotional, cognitive, and neurological components, and explain how these processes contribute to effective communication, social understanding, and client relationships.
  • Identify and reflect on personal empathic tendencies and inner states, using metacognitive strategies to recognize how individual differences and “multiple selves” influence empathic responses and interpersonal dynamics.
  • Apply empathic listening and perspective-taking skills by accurately perceiving verbal and non-verbal cues, monitoring internal reactions, and intentionally responding to clients with awareness of context, self-activation, and bias.
  • Utilize brain fitness techniques to enhance empathic awareness and behavioural responses, developing the capacity to recognize conditioned neural loops, modify automatic reactions, and strengthen meaningful client connections through deliberate practice and reflection.
