Project Position
The Pathways to Prosperity Project will focus on supporting community-based learning opportunities that respond to immediate employment needs. As the lead organization under this project, Opportunity Place will initiate, support and provide learning opportunities for individuals in the early childhood education sector. As a Nova Scotia Works Employment Centre, Opportunity Place provides better access to high-quality, inclusive services for employers, job seekers and those looking to pursue upskilling and advancement opportunities. Our services and supports are delivered by qualified career practitioners and counselors, and include case management, career counselling, job search services and resources, job coaching, job development, employment workshops, and employer engagement services.
This objective of this project is to focus on supporting community-based development and the implementation of program content that will support ECE Level 1 candidates in preparing for the Recognized Prior Learning (RPL) program through the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Nova Scotia (AECENS). RPL is a competency-based assessment process.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator will champion candidates through the RPL process by the development and delivery of customized program content including preparatory workshops, study groups, mock interviews and practice exams. The Project Coordinator will ensure all delivery aspects are monitored and managed in accordance with funding agreements and provide full delivery of activities as outlined in the project contract.
Service delivery and training activities will be conducted in-person and / or virtually on evenings and weekends, to accommodate participant work schedules. Delivery methods and related contingencies will be flexible to accommodate new and evolving COVID-19 restrictions. This position provides the opportunity for the successful candidate to work primarily home based.
Skills & Competencies:
Program Planning
- Coordinate Program schedules, resources, equipment, deadlines and information
- Coordinate the Program deliverables and be informed of Program time lines and budgets to ensure the delivery of the most strategic functionality within the Program constraints.
- Establish and maintain a usable and well-communicated schedule for all phases of the Program
- Maintain and monitor to ensure effective delivery service standards as they relate to the Program
- Develop Market and promotional material for program participants and employers
- Identify topics, coordinate, and develop employability workshops
- Develop and implement program benchmarks to ensure objectives and goals are being met
Administration / Program Delivery
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports
- Work with the Executive Director or designate to ensure any changes are understood and approved
- Monitor and track budget and associated expenses
- Complete interim and final report evaluation of the project and activities
- Report progress back to the Executive Director or designate
- Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise
- Responsive, proactive and strong problem solving skills
- Adherence to ethical decision making and respect for diversity
Facilitation
- Ability to design, organize and implement group sessions with diverse participant groups
- Good understanding or Adult Learning Principles
- Understanding of program evaluation concepts
- Educate and develop participant skills by facilitating workshops on a range of topics including exam preparation, life skills, employability and essential skills
- Implement instruction techniques that are suitable for a variety of learning styles while maintaining sensitivity to the diverse needs and abilities of participants
- Evaluate results and outcomes for reporting purposes
Position Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of materials and resources; compile information and prepare candidates for RPL and practice interviews / exams
- Engage candidates through structured activities, tutoring, study groups as well as motivational supports
- Liaise with industry partners on practice interviews and interview questions
- Prepare and deliver virtual / in-person information sessions to participants and RPL candidates
- Help participants access financial assistance that will support project participation
- Facilitate virtual workshops on exam and interview preparation; time management; motivation; confidence
- Engage participants in formal essential skills / employability skills assessments; facilitated by a qualified assessor.
- Connect participants to online training opportunities that will support employment maintenance and advancement (customer service, computer literacy, problem solving, communication, productivity, accountability, workplace conflict, public speaking)
- Incorporate project content and activities to enhance skills and understanding around diversity and inclusion concepts
- Coordinate participant access to employment support services as required (case management for employment needs assessment / action plan development; career counselling to address work-life balance concerns)
- Responsible for the safety, security and confidentiality of any information shared with them by project participants and any other source directly involved in providing support services.
- Maintain, in strict confidence accurate records, notes and related documentation for reporting purposes
- Responsible for maintaining accurate written reports on participant progress and project outcomes
- Prepare service delivery package for use post-project to support future RPL candidates to achieve the identified industry training objectives.
Education Requirements, Training, Experience & Attributes
- Bachelor is Degree in Human Services, Business, Social Work, and or Adult Education.
- Several years of relevant experience in services related to career development or in a human services profession
- Current expertise in relevant computer software applications including social media and video conferencing platforms
- Theoretical knowledge of principles of specialized employment planning, adult education and an understanding of the RPL process
- Previous project management experience
- Understanding of social, community and economic issues facing participants
- Knowledge of employment and labour trends, personal development and community requirements.
- Proven leadership and management skills
- Organizational skills in coordinating, directing, coaching, and negotiating
- Conceptual Skills – analysis, interpretation, product design.
- Sound reasoning, judgment and problem solving
- Cultural sensitivities – working with diverse cultural groups
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Start Date: Immediate (approximately 16 month project)
Hours of Work: 35 hours / week. Flexible dependent upon participant availability; primarily evenings and weekends. Flexibility is required to accommodate participant program participation
